Two of MLB's biggest box office draws, the Red Sox and Phillies, have losing records but a long season ahead to turn things around. They begin an intriguing series Tuesday at Fenway Park; Zack Wheeler is expected to start for Philadelphia, making them -149 favorites in the sportsbooks before Boston announces its starter.
The Red Sox, after firing Cora, got a breather in Detroit, securing their first sweep of the year. However, back at Fenway, the red-hot Rays gave the Red Sox a lesson in baseball. Not even rookie starter Tolle, who's getting all the attention in Boston, could stop Dominican slugger Caminero, who homered off him. Even so, Tolle didn't get the necessary support from his offense; the Red Sox stranded 18 runners on base.
The Phillies at least managed to win their last home series against the Rockies, improving their record to 19-22. After a slump, Kyle Schwarber's bat is back to its best. He racked up four home runs in the series against Colorado at Citi Field.
