Two Metropolitan Division rivals clash on Wednesday night in the NHL as the Washington Capitals host the Philadelphia Flyers at Capital One Arena.
This will be their second meeting of the season. The first enouncer occurred just before the Olympic break, with Philadelphia winning 4-2 thanks to a couple of late goals. It was a morale-boosting victory after the team had suffered four consecutive defeats.
Yet the Flyers couldn’t build on their success, losing the next game to Ottawa in overtime. As a result, Rick Tocchet’s side will head into Wednesday’s tilt with a 1-4-1 record across the last six games.
Compared to their old foes, the Capitals have been on a completely different path. Even with both netminders dealing with health issues, Washington put together a good 4-1-0 run before the Olympic break. Now, Logan Thompson and Charlie Lindgren are available for selection again, giving the team a significant boost.
Forward Connor McMichael is also set to return on Wednesday night, though defensive standout John Carlson might miss the game due to a lower-body injury. Carlson plays a massive role for Washington on both ends of the ice, and his absence would certainly be felt by the team.

Our Washington Capitals vs Philadelphia Flyers Prediction
Even though the Capitals have the NHL’s all-time top goal-scorer, Alex Ovechkin, in their ranks, the team’s offense has been mediocre this season. They are scoring 3.19 goals per game, and only five teams have a worse power-play efficiency.
Philadelphia has allowed 3.16 goals per game across the season, but the defensive performance improved before the break. With Dan Vladar between the sticks, the Flyers limited Washington to two goals on Feb. 3 and have played out three straight games with three or fewer goals allowed.
Our prediction for Washington Capitals vs. Philadelphia Flyers: Capitals under 3.5 goals.
