The Edmonton Oilers attempt to hang on to their top spot in the Pacific Division on Saturday in a matchup against the Philadelphia Flyers at Rogers Place.
Although the Oilers have struggled for consistency in 2025-26, they enter the weekend with 46 points, holding a one-point advantage over the Vegas Golden Knights and Anaheim Ducks in the Pacific Division. The team has alternated between wins and losses over its last four outings and will try to rebound from Wednesday’s 6-2 defeat against the Boston Bruins.
Edmonton went the entire December without registering back-to-back losses. Connor McDavid has been in extraordinary form recently, and with him looking as good as he’s ever been, the Oilers can feel confident of winning any game.
McDavid closed out 2025 with a 14-game point streak, scoring 13 goals and delivering 21 assists. With a 34-point effort in December, McDavid surpassed Steven Stamkos (33 in April 2022) for the most points by an active player in a single calendar month.
There currently seems to be no way of stopping McDavid; you can only contain him. Philadelphia’s ability to limit his impact will be a major factor in Saturday’s game. The team has been solid defensively this season, allowing 2.85 goals per game.
