Sixers coach Nick Nurse excused his team's recent crushing defeat against the Magic in Philadelphia, saying it's normal for his players to have one or two games where everything just goes wrong. Now the 76ers travel to the Barclays Center to face the Nets, whom they have already managed to beat this season. However, once again, the Sixers will have to play without Embiid, who has been confirmed to be out on Friday while recovering from a knee injury.
With Embiid out, Tyrese Maxey is expected to carry the team; he scored 20 points against Orlando and is averaging a high 32.2 points per game. Grimes, Drummond, and Edwards also started against the Magic, on a team that will also be without Paul George.
The Nets, meanwhile, have only won three games this season. They lost at the Barclays Center by 13 points against the Knicks in their most recent defeat, a game in which, however, Clowney had a tremendous 31-point performance; he earned praise from his coach Jordi Fernández, who said they are playing through him.
