Former Grand Slam champion Petra Kvitova will try to turn back the hands of time as she goes for a spot in the third round against fellow veteran Ons Jabeur of Turkey in the second round of the 2025 Italian Open.
Kvitova earned a ticket to the second round in Italy after vanquishing Irina-Camelia Begu of Romania 7-5 6-1 on Tuesday. The two-time Wimbledon Open champion scored 39 points out of 59 serves she landed on her first try, on top of breaking Begu’s serves five times. It was Kvitova’s first win this season after five tries.
Jabeur also looks to register her first clay-court victory this season following a second-round upset at the hands of Moyuka Uchijima of Japan in Madrid, 4-6 6-3 6-4. Jabeur is limiting her activity this clay-court season as she continues to rehabilitated the calf injury she suffered in Miami several weeks ago.
