It's a key tie between two major European teams, Rangers and Panathinaikos, in the Champions League qualifying rounds.
Scottish Rangers, with new owners, a new manager, and practically a new team that saw numerous departures and even the signing of eight new players, took a step in the right direction by beating Greek side Panathinaikos 2-0, with goals from Curtis and Gassama at Ibrox Stadium. Playing in the Champions League, both in sporting and financial terms, means a lot to Rangers; in Glasgow, they made good on their status as betting favorites, getting bookmakers to pay odds as high as -114 for their victory last Tuesday.
The Greek team has a couple of key players in their ranks whom they will greatly need if they hope to turn the tie around on Wednesday. Fotis Ioannidis failed to score in 75 minutes played in Scotland, but the Greek national team striker hopes to prove his worth in the return leg in Athens.
Renowned Polish goalkeeper Dragowski is guarding the posts for the Athenian team, and thanks to his six saves in the first leg, Panathinaikos has a slim chance of turning the tie around.
