On Saturday, during the afternoon for those viewing in the US, we have the deciding game of one of the most exciting competitions in world soccer. That's right, it's the final of the Copa Libertadores, which will be an all Brazilian affair, contested between two of the big dogs. Palmeiras and Flamengo will go up against each other at the neutral location of Estadio Monumental, which is the largest stadium in all of South America, situated in Buenos Aires Argentina.
This final could so easily have looked very different. In the semi-finals, the Palmeiras boys were downed in Ecuador, losing by three goals to zero against LDU Quito, leaving themselves a mountain to climb in the second leg, but climb the mountain they did, winning 4-0 in front of a home crowd, pulling off a quite audacious comeback. Flamengo's semi-final exploits were a little more low-key, with the the men in black and red grinding out a 1-0 win at home against Argentina's Racing, before seeing it out with a 0-0 on the road.
On Saturday, these two will meet for the third time in 2025, having already played each other twice in the Brazilian Serie A season. Having won both of those games, it is the Flamengo players that will likely be feeling the most confident ahead of this game. Can they make it three wins from three? Or will their opponents take the sweetest revenge on the biggest stage of all?

From a recent form point of the view, Palmeiras haven't exactly been flying in recent weeks. In fact, it's fair to say that they're limping over the finishing line in the Serie A, winning none of their last five league games, losing three of those. Somewhat alarmingly, they've scored in only two of those five, which has seen them lose out to none other than Flamengo in the battle for the title.
While their opponents have struggled to get going in the league of late, the Flamengo boys have held their form fairly well, winning three of their last five, and those three wins have helped to secure the league title. They've lost just one of their last eight in all competitions. In other words, Filipe Luís' men are a team in solid form.

Each team has a few personnel concerns ahead of this final. For Palmeiras, Lucas Evangelista, who has been out for a while with a hamstring injury, remains sidelined, while very useful forward Paulinho, who previously impressed as regular goal scorer for Atletico-MG, is also out after missing much of the campaign with a leg injury.
For Flamengo, Filipe Luís will not be able to select the influential and dangerous Gonzalo Plato, which is disappointing. The Ecuador international can certainly hurt teams, but unfortunately he cannot play on Saturday after receiving a red card in the semi final. Pedro, who has scored plenty of goals in 2025, is another player who will miss out. The Brazilian forward continues to recover from a hand injury. Finally, there are doubts over the fitness of Leo Ortiz, who has been recovering from an ankle issue. He may make the bench, but is unlikely to start.

The early betting market ahead of this massive game may suggest that a game where at least one team fails to score is the most likely outcome, but I'm not too sure that I agree with that. Away from the comforts of home, Filipe Luís' men do score regular goals, but they also concede regular goals.
Both teams have found the net in each of Flamengo's last four games away from their own ground, while the visitors warmed up for this test by scoring not one but twice away to Gremio recently. They once again looked weak at the back on that occasion, though.
When the teams met back in May, it was Flamengo who came out on top by two goals to zero, but both teams created plenty, with Palmeiras creating a very healthy 1.79 xG. When they met in October, just over a month ago, they shared five goals, with both teams notching multiple goals, so do not be surprised if we see at least one goal go in at each end in the Argentine capital on Saturday.
