In what could be an NBA Finals preview, the Oklahoma City Thunder (44-14, 20-7 Away) will be in Michigan on Wednesday evening to take on the Pistons (42-14, 21-7 Home) at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. Fans can follow the action of this battle between conference No. 1 seeds on ESPN once the game gets underway at 7:30 p.m. EST.
OKC has defeated quite a few teams this season despite dealing with serious injury issues for most of the year. They’ll have at least three of their core group out for this game, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Ajay Mitchell, and Jalen Williams, which may have a lot to do with why the Pistons are 5.5-point favorites. Then again, OKC is coming in hot despite dealing with injuries to so many key players, with wins in their first two games post-break: 105-86 vs. Brooklyn and 121-113 vs. Cleveland on Sunday. Detroit got off to a great start post-Break with wins against the Knicks (126-111) and the Bulls (126-110). But then they hit a road block n Monday when they hosted the San Antonio Spurs (and lost, 114-103).
This game will be the first of two scheduled between the Thunder and Pistons this year.

I’ve gone against the Thunder a few times when the team has been hit hard by injuries, only to be wrong in the end. Of course, in those games, the Thunder were not facing the best team in the Eastern Conference. But they have proven time and time again that they have the depth to figure out a way to win no matter who is on the court. However, Detroit is healthy and a pretty great team in its own right. I expect this to be a much better game than expected. Many experts are predicting a Thunder victory, and I could see that happen. But I think it is more likely that this ends up being a really close game.
