After a heartbreaking loss in the previous World Series, Blue Jays fans witnessed two epic victories to kick off the 2026 season, becoming the first team since 2014 to win their first two games by walkoff. The Jays and A's will play the final game of the opening series on Sunday, with Morales starting for the visitors and Lauer for Toronto.
The Blue Jays won 8-7 in eleven innings on Saturday, overcoming a rough inning in which the Athletics scored five runs. Cease struck out 12 in his debut. However, the Blue Jays have shown plenty of promise in just two games. Their defense and timely hitting from Giménez, who went 4-for-5 on Saturday and delivered the game-winning hit the day before, have been particularly impressive. Okamoto, a third baseman from Japan, impressed in the early games, and Kirk hit a timely home run in the ninth to keep his team alive.
The Athletics, meanwhile, are a team that was displaced from their original stadium and are playing in a Triple-A ballpark. Some consider them a team without an identity at the moment, but the talent is there: Kurtz, Rooker, and Wilson, although it's their pitching where they seem to be struggling a bit in 2026.

Our Toronto Blue Jays vs Athletics Prediction
As for the Blue Jays' starting pitcher on Sunday, the well-known Eric Lauer, he'll have to be especially wary of Langeliers' bat, which has started hot, hitting three home runs in two games, including a grand slam, but his teammates have struck out in key situations.
Morales, the Athletics' starting pitcher, showed control issues in his most recent Spring Training start, something the Jays have surely taken note of; they'll be looking to draw walks.
Our prediction for Blue Jays vs Athletics is: Blue Jays ML.
