After taking Game 2 by a squeaker, the Athletics will enter Game 3 as an interesting +145 underdog against the Seattle Mariners on Sunday at T-Mobile Park.

The A’s returned the favor to the Mariners as they came through with a 2-1 win over the Mariners in extra innings, a day after coming up short in the series opener 2-3. With a 60-71 record, the Athletics are virtually out of the postseason race as they trail the current holder of the third and last wild card spot, the Mariners, by 9.5 games with just four weeks left in the regular season. Despite the circumstances, the Athletics are treating every game left on their schedule as an opportunity to build the foundation of a winning team in the coming years.

The Mariners (69-61), who have lost four of their last five games, are trying to bag at least two wins in this series with the A’s as they look to keep other wild-card contenders such as the Kansas City Royals (66-64), Cleveland Guardians (64-64), and Texas Rangers (65-66) at bay. Starting pitcher Logan Evans has been placed on the 15-day injury list due to a lingering pain in his elbow. Moreover, right fielder Dominic Conzone is listed day-to-day with an injury. Conzone, who is batting .289 with 7 home runs and 20 RBIs, hasn’t played yet in the series against the A’s.
