The Mariners claimed their first win of the season by downing Oakland Athletics 4-2 on Thursday. Second baseman Jorge Polanco and left fielder Randy Arozarena belted a homer each to spearhead Seattle’s three-run rally that pushed ahead of the Athletics 4-2 in the 8th inning. Logan Gilbert pitched seven solid innings with one earned run and 8 strikeouts but it was Andres Munoz that closed the show by shutting out the A’s in the top of the 9th
Meanwhile, Tyler Soderstrom dazzled in his season debut as he belted two homers in the loss to Seattle. The 26th overall pick in the 2020 MLB Draft has given everybody a glimpse of his potential as a mainstay hitter for the Athletics. It is also worth mentioning that Luis Severino pitched six scoreless innings, allowing only three hits and striking out six.
