After scoring a 10-3 and 13-1 home victories over the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Padres could not sustain their dominance into the series finale as the visiting flipped the script with a 9-3 win in Game 4. 23-year-old starter Adam Mazur bombed out in his second start, allowing 8 earned runs in 3.0 innings. The Athletics also shared the same fate as the Padres, bowing to the Toronto Blue Jays, 6-4, in the last game of their previous series. Relief pitcher Mitch Spence had a solid extended showing on the bump for the As, giving up two earned runs in 7.0 innings. Unfortunately, Oakland’s bullpen failed to follow through as Austin Adams allowed Isiah Kiner-Falefa to deliver a bases-loaded three-run double that broke a 3-3 deadlock in the 10th inning.
