It was an impressive game, and some remarkable events unfolded in the first game of the series between the Athletics and Angels. The Angels won, arguably undeservedly; they only managed two hits in the ninth inning. One of those hits was by Adam Fraizer, who broke up J.T. Ginn's no-hitter in the bottom of the ninth. Then, Neto hit a walk-off home run, his eighth of the year, and the Athletics unexpectedly lost 1-2.

Ginn was dominant for the eight innings he pitched; MLB fans were eager to see if he could throw the first no-hitter of 2026. He had struck out 10 Angels; Mark Kotsay gave him the confidence to complete the feat with over 100 pitches already thrown, but in the end, the Angels had other ideas and sabotaged the no-hitter. Ultimately, the Athletics gave Ginn a narrow one-run lead, and that was his downfall.

However, despite the unexpected victory, there is little to celebrate in the Angels' dugout; they already have the worst record in all of MLB. They were swept in Cleveland against the Guardians, and then during Rivalry Weekend, in the Freeway Series, they were crushed by the Dodgers, losing by a combined score of 31-3 from May 15-17.
