The 1st game of the weekend series in Houston was taken by the Astros (29-36). Now, this afternoon, the Athletics (30-33) will try to get one back and tie the series before Sunday's final game of the set.
The Astros jumped all over the Athletics early in the game yesterday. Isaac Paredes hit a 3-run home run in the 1st inning to get things started. In the 3rd, Christian Walker knocked in a run with a triple to the gap before Paredes hit a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 5-0. Peter Lambert pitched 5.1 innings for the Astros and held the Athletics to just 1 run on 5 hits. This was despite him being a bit wild and walking 4 drums. The bullpen for the Astros did their job and closed out the game with 3.2 innings of scoreless and hitless work.
Here in game two, there will be an interesting pitching matchup. The Astros will be starting rookie Tatsuya Imai, who is carrying a hefty 5.52 ERA on the season. He was solid in his start against the Rangers a little over a week ago, but he is still susceptible to allowing a bunch of crooked numbers. On the other side, the Athletics are giving rookie Kade Morris his 1st career start.
Two youngsters on the mound for each team against some veteran lineups could be a good sign to see some runs in this one.
