Oakland, meanwhile, has lost three consecutive games by a single run.
The wind claimed a victory over the pitchers on Friday in Detroit, as four home runs left normally pitcher-friendly Comerica Park. The wind will again favor the hitters, which could be less than ideal for a pair of starters who have been known to give up the big fly. Kenta Maeda allowed three home runs in his first start for Detroit against the normally light-hitting White Sox, while Paul Blackburn closed out last year with four home runs allowed in his final three starts.

The Detroit pitching staff has looked sharp in this early season, but the wind seemed to throw a wrench into their plans yesterday. Normally reliable Tarik Skubal finished the game with four earned runs on four hits because he couldn’t keep the ball in the ballpark near the end of his start.
Oakland’s biggest issue right now is that the Athletics strike out far too often. But when they do put the ball in play, they’ve tended to do good things with it. Maeda isn’t the type of pitcher who misses bats very often. Dating back to last season, Maeda has had three or fewer strikeouts in six of his past nine starts.
