The Athletics came to Phoenix on a five-game skid, but they always seem to play their best against Arizona, having won eight of the past 10 meetings against the Diamondbacks.
Playing on the road has usually been disastrous for Oakland, which has just 12 wins away from home on the season. Only Colorado and the Chicago White Sox have a worse road record than Oakland, despite the lack of a true home advantage. That has not extended to starter Hogan Harris, however; he boasts an ERA of 1.93 away from home. If he pitches the way he has lately, Oakland has a reasonable shot at another victory.

Arizona’s pitching staff has really struggled as of late. The Diamondbacks have given up no fewer than four runs in any of their past seven games, and things have really gotten ugly at times. In their past seven games, they’ve given up eight runs or more on four occasions and allowed double digits to the Phillies and the Twins.
The Diamondbacks have the second-worst staff ERA in the majors, ahead of only Colorado and its thin air. Zac Gallen hasn’t been a big problem, but he hasn’t been lights-out either. In his past six starts, he’s allowed three runs or more four times, which isn’t great with this bullpen behind him. Given the Arizona bullpen’s struggles, it seems likely that Oakland will do some hitting. The Athletics scored nine runs on Friday and have improved at the plate in recent weeks.
