The next round of MLS fixtures kicks off with an interesting meeting between New York Red Bulls and Charlotte. The two are on equal points as they clash at Sports Illustrated Stadium this Saturday. It must be said, the early odds for the visiting team to score over 1.5 goals are surprisingly generous.
It was a very poor performance in the last outings for New York RB, hit with a 3-1 defeat against bottom-of-the-league Philadelphia Union, a side that hasn’t been too capable in the final third so far this season. It certainly wasn’t a cheerful return to the league for the hosts, who concluded the first half of a rather disappointing start to the season on a good run of four games unbeaten. This now means it is 14 games on the bounce without a clean sheet for Michael Bradley’s men.
Facing fellow basement-boys Atlanta United last time out also wasn’t the most ideal outcome Charlotte would’ve hoped for. Despite netting two goals and creating a very tasty xG, The Crown couldn’t shrug off their willing opponents, concluding the game in a tie. They go again this weekend, and surely they’ll be excited to take on the side they thrashed earlier in the season.

Dean Smith’s side shouldn't be as underestimated as the early market makes out. For one, New York RB are conceding some of the highest number of goals in the league, shipping more than one goal in five out of seven on home soil so far, whilst they aren’t in tip-top shape heading into this game in terms of clean sheets.
The home side really failed to show up last time out, giving away a breathtaking xG of 3.21, and it’s hard to imagine them full of confidence following that performance. Charlotte should be more than capable of breaking down the open New York Red Bulls, as they have already shown this season, as well as scoring twice on the road against table-leaders Nashville and New York City.
