The New York Yankees are battling it out this week with a division rival in the Tampa Bay Rays. Today, they play their 4th and final game of the series, with the Yankees needing to win to split the series.
The Yankees looked good in game one. They rode starter Cam Schlittler, who went 8 strong innings. He allowed just 1 run on 4 hits and picked up 8 strikeouts while walking no one. Jose Caballero was the main force of the offense. He went 3-2 with 2 home runs and 4 RBIs.
While they looked good in game one, things have not gone the Yankees' way since. In game two, Will Warren gave up 6 runs on 7 hits in just 4 innings of work and picked up just his 4th loss of the season. Ben Rice tried to give him some run support by going 3-4 with a home run and 3 RBIs, but it was not enough.
Last night, Shane McClanahan was lights out for the Rays. We held the Yankees to just 4 hits and no runs over his 6.1 innings of work. Cole Suser stepped in next and went 1.2 innings of scoreless work and allowed just a single hit. Finally, Bryan Baker stepped up and closed the door in the 9th with 3 strikeouts to pick up his 25th save of the season.
