The Tampa Bay Rays came into Game 1 of their series with the New York Yankees yesterday hoping to end their losing streak at two with a win over the previously slumping Bronx Bombers. But after a gem of a game by Cam Schlitter, they’ll have to try to stop it at three games when they host the Yankees at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg at 6:40 p.m. EST.

New York hadn’t recorded five runs in a single game since Cam Schlitter struck out a career-high 13 against the Reds on June 19.

Will Warren will try to help the Yankees stay on the right track when he takes the mound to start the day. Warren is 7-3 in 17 starts with a 3.73 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP. He has pitched well on the road, going 3-1 in eight starts with a 3.64 ERA and a .268 OBA. In his last road start, he allowed seven hits and five runs over 5 2/3 innings vs. the Boston Red Sox (June 26).

Ian Seymour is scheduled to get the start for the Rays. Listed as a reliever, he has started four games in 31 appearances this season, recorded two saves, and has a 4.02 ERA and a 1.09 WHIP. His last home start came against the Royals (June 25), whom he held hitless and scoreless over 6 2/3 innings.
