The Yankees suffered their first loss of the season, dropping the first game of their series against the Mariners. The series resumes on Tuesday at T-Mobile Park, with the New Yorkers set to reintroduce their ace, left-hander Max Fried, who delivered an outstanding performance in their debut against the Giants.
The Bronx Bombers began the season positively, largely due to the outstanding performance of their starting pitchers, who dominated the Giants' lineup and swept them in San Francisco. In the opening series, the Yankees didn't hit much, but at least they got timely hits; Stanton and Judge both hit the always elusive first home run of the season. Even so, in Seattle, in Game 1, they only managed five hits; the bottom of the lineup went cold in their first loss of the season.
The Mariners improved their record to 2-2; they had previously played a close opening series against the Guardians, but in that series, in Game 3, their most prominent hitters finally came alive. Arozarena hit a double and an RBI single, and slugger Cal Raleigh got his first double of the season.
