The 2026 MLB Season kicks off with a long game on the slate on Wednesday night at Oracle Park in San Francisco. The Giants will host the New York Yankees in a matchup of 15+ win pitchers. Max Fried gets the nod for the Yankees to open the season up. He finished last year with a record of 19-5 and an ERA of 2.86. He will be countered by the Giants’ Logan Webb, who went 15-11 with a 3.22 ERA last season.
The Yankees did not make any big splashes over the offseason, but they still have a very strong lineup. They will be led by MVP candidate Aaron Judge, who finished with 53 home runs and 114 RBIs last season. Jazz Chisholm and Jose Caballero will man the middle infield and wreak havoc on the base paths. They finished with a combined 80 stolen bases last season and are primed for even more this year.
San Francisco added two position starters to their roster over the offseason. They brought in 2nd baseman Luis Arraez from San Diego and outfielder Harrison Bader from the Phillies. Both men batted around .300 and should help bolster the team's average, which finished 24th in the league last season. However, they will not be the catalyst for an offense that will see great strides early in the season.

Our San Francisco Giants vs New York Yankees Prediction
While the Giants made more moves than the Yankees, New York is still the better team on paper and should be primed to take the season opener here on the road in San Francisco. They have had tremendous success in recent years against these Giants, especially on the road. That is likely to continue in the season opener. Max Fried only allowed 2 earned runs in his opening game las season, so the early jitters should not be an issue for him here.
