Their late but effective rally earned praise from Aaron Boone, Wells, Bellinger, Grisham, and Rice; all of whom contributed RBI singles in that crucial inning.
Now the Yankees face a highly anticipated weekend series against the San Diego Padres, who are also in the playoff hunt, at Petco Park. The Yankees will start Max Fried, whom they hope to refine and have at peak performance heading into the playoffs. The left-hander, returning from elbow bone bruise, pitched 3.2 innings against the Red Sox, allowing one home run, and it was ultimately a pitch-limited outing.
The Padres are locked in a tight race with the D-backs for the final NL wild card spot; they rested on Thursday after losing the final game of their series against the Reds in Cincinnati. Tatis went 2-for-4 and is having by far his best stretch of the season.
