The Subway Series between the New York Yankees (28-18) and the New York Mets (19-26) will be decided this afternoon. Each team has taken one of the previous two games, and this one is set to be another exciting game.
In game one, the Yankees put up 3 runs in the third inning and maintained that cushion all the way to their 5-2 victory. Cam Schlittler picked up his 6th win of the season. He struck out 9 while allowing just 1 run on 2 hits in 6.2 innings of solid work. Ben Rice and Jazz Chisholm combined to go 6-9 with a double and a home run while knocking in 3 RBIs.
In game two, the Mets were able to exact revenge. Huascar Brazoban got the start, but Drew Peterson did most of the work. Peterson got the win after working 4 innings, striking out 8, and allowing 2 runs on 6 hits. Carson Benge paced the offense with 3 hits, including a double, but it was Mark Vientos who provided the RBIs. Vientos smacked a 2-run double in the 5th and then picked up another one on a groundout in the 7th to help lead the Mets to the 6-3 win.
Game three could come down to pitching, and that edge will be to the Mets. Veteran Freddy Peralta will be on the mound for the Mets, while rookie Elmer Rodriguez and his 5.19 ERA will go for the Yankees.

Elmer Rodriguez has not had a great start to his rookie season with the Yankees. Oddly enough, both his previous starts this season have come against the Texas Rangers. In those starts, he has not completed the 5th inning in either and has had control issues. He walked 4 batters in each of those starts and was lucky he did not give up more than the 5 total runs in those starts. Freddy Peralta, on the other hand, has looked good in his last 2 starts. He’s held opponents to just 2 runs over 11 innings of work. We like the Peralta edge in this matchup and believe the Mets will pick up the win.
