In this MLB rivalry weekend, no series stands out more than the Subway Series between the Yankees and Mets, two teams with very different realities. Aaron Boone's squad took the lead, winning the first game of the series 5-2.

The Yankees won the first game at Citi Field, which drew a crowd of 40,000 fans. Cam Schlitter shone once again, pitching 6.2 innings and striking out the Mets. Former Yankee Clay Holmes started for the home team and escaped several jams until he could no longer contain the Yankees in the third inning, when Bellinger and Chisholm hit back-to-back RBI doubles that brought Rice and Judge home.

While the Yankees and Rays are pulling away at the top of the AL East, their crosstown rivals, the Mets, after the incredible investment of the last two years, are in last place in the NL East with an 18-25 record. Soto, however, doesn't want to be blamed for the season's disaster and contributed a home run in the loss, even though he appeared to hurt his back when he struck out earlier in an awkward motion.
