The Mets, with one of the most valuable rosters in all of MLB, remain mired at the bottom of the NL East, but they had a very promising end to June and hope to take the final game of their series against the Mariners on June 3rd before traveling to Petco Park.

Timely home run power returned for the Mets, at least in their last home series, where they were able to sweep the Marlins, shaking off the bitter taste the "Fighting Fish" had given them in recent years. Melendez hit a walk-off home run of the kind that changes the entire dynamic of a season; Young and Senger hit their first home runs of 2026 in Game 2, and the sweep was completed in a 10-1 rout that included a monstrous home run by Soto.

However, in Seattle, the Mets have had to play against a Mariners team also on the rise, who have regained the division lead thanks to their ability to win in close games. Between May 29 and June 1, the Mariners won four games, three of them by walk-off. This was the case in the first game of the series against the Mets, where Cole Young drove in the winning run with a single in the tenth inning.
