It is the subway series in July that will feature just 2 games between the New York Yankees (60-42) and the New York Mets (51-48). The Mets swept the previous 2-game series back in late June in 2 high scoring affairs. Game 1 finished 9-7 only to be outdone by the 12-2 game 2 finish. Mark Vientos went 3-7 with 2 homeruns and 4 RBIs in the last meeting between these two. Recently, the Mets have lost 3 of their last 5 while the Yankees have done the same. The Yanks are coming off an impressive 9-1 drudging of the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday. The Mets, on the other hand, picked up a divisional win over the Marlins 6-4. Tonight, the Mets will look to Jose Quintana (4-6, 4.13) to hold this explosive Yankee lineup in check. He will need to be better than his last start which came against the Rockies where he allowed 5 runs on 6 hits in 6.2 innings. The Yankees will have a formidable flamethrower in Luis Gil (10-5, 3.17) on the hill tonight. Gil held a strong Orioles lineup to just 1 run over 6 innings while picking up his 10th win of the season in his last start.
