The New York Mets will go for the series sweep heading into the All-Star break when they play the Royals at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, MO, in the final game of a three-game weekend series. The game is scheduled to get underway at 2:10 p.m. EST.
Game One was a relatively easy 8-3 win for the Mets on Friday, but yesterday’s game was much more competitive. The Mets' starting pitcher, Frankie Montas, got the Mets on track with five good innings, giving up just four hits and one earned run. He held a 2-0 lead when he left the game after five innings. Kansas City got on the scoreboard with a run in the sixth, but Juan Soto closed out the scoring with a monster, 435-foot shot in the ninth to make the final score 3-1. It would not be shocking to see today’s game turn into a pitcher’s duel. The Mets are going with Clayton Holmes. Holmes is 8-4 in 18 starts with a 3.29 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP. Teams are hitting .231 against him. Kansas City will give the ball to Noah Cameron to start the day. Cameron is 3-4 in 11 starts with a 2.56 ERA and .96 WHIP. Teams are hitting .180 against him.

I am not sure why the public is leaning so heavily on the OVER. Neither team is hitting especially well; Kansas City isn’t doing too badly at .265 BA, but has scored just 21 runs across their last five games. The Mets have hit just .207, but managed to score one more run across their last five than KC. With two solid pitchers on the mound, I see no reason to think we’ll go from scoring five and seven runs in the first two games to OVER 8.5 in this one.
