The New York Mets (59-54 SU, 56-57 ATS) look to try to get some momentum back in the right direction when they face the Colorado Rockies (42-72 SU, 58-56 ATS). The Mets looked like they were suffering from jet lag when they faced the Rockies on Tuesday, as that marked their third game in a different time zone in three days. Getting a win in St. Louis seemed to be a big step forward, but the Mets gave back some of their momentum in Tuesday’s defeat.
The Rockies don’t have anything to play for, but they have seemed to embrace the spoiler role. Colorado has won four of its past six games and has actually looked pretty good on defense. The Rockies have been an annoyingly difficult team for better opponents all season, keeping the margin to just a single run in 16 of their defeats. If a team doesn’t bury them early, they’ll spend the whole game hanging around.

Was the move to Queens the start of something better for Paul Blackburn? The Mets acquired Blackburn from Oakland at the deadline, and he won his first start in orange and blue with ease. On the other hand, he was facing the Angels for the second consecutive start. Against the Rockies, there’s a lot less data as to how he might do, and the sample size isn’t great. Since coming back from injury, the Angels are the only lineup he’s seen.
As long as he can count on his defense — not a sure thing — Ryan Feltner gives his team a chance to win the game. Colorado has gotten three straight quality starts from Feltner, and he hasn’t allowed more than three earned runs in any of his past seven starts. The key word there is earned, because the defense has given away at least one unearned run in four of his past seven starts. But if the defense does its job, there’s a lot more to like about what Feltner brings to the table. Blackburn hasn’t shown enough consistency yet; our prediction for New York vs. Colorado is Rockies +1.5.
