The Chicago White Sox will host the New York Mets for a 3-game set that begins tonight. This will be the 1st meeting between the teams this season. The White Sox have been having a strong season and currently lead the Twins by 3.5 games in the AL Central. For the Mets, they have been underwhelming again and sit at the bottom of the NL East, trailing the Braves by 17 games.
While the Mets have not had the season that they anticipated, they have been playing well lately. They have won 5 of their last 6. They swept the Washington Nationals and are coming off winning 2 of 3 against the San Diego Padres. During that stretch, neither they nor their opponents scored more than 5 runs. It seems to be that the Mets play as well as their pitching holds up. Their bats have not been reliable. They scored just 8 total runs in the series with the Padres.
Chicago has had similar struggles in scoring runs lately. Despite sitting on top of the division, they have only scored 6 total runs in their previous 3 games. They are coming off a 2-0 loss to the Braves after shutting out the Cubs in their finale 3-0. They will turn to Sean Burke tonight to keep the Mets lineup in check and keep their chances alive.
