Fighting for their postseason lives, the New York Mets go for two wins in a row against the Atlanta Braves on Saturday at Truist Park.
The Mets seek to score another convincing win over the Braves, whom they have beaten in four of their last six meetings. New York (68-60) ranks second in the National League East, trailing the pace-setting Philadelphia Phillies by six games. The Mets could miss again the service of Brandon Nimmo, who is listed day-to-day with a neck issue. On the other hand, Jeff McNeil could play sparingly on Saturday after hurting his right shoulder.
The Braves failed to win three in a row after letting the Mets outgun them in the series opener. Atlanta, sporting a 4.36 ERA this season, conceded four runs to the Mets through the first three innings before conceding three more runs in the fourth inning. With a 58-70 record, the Braves understand that only a miracle can save them from missing the postseason this year.

Mets’ Clay Holmes (4.43 ERA in his last five starts) will start on Saturday against Braves’ hurler Cal Quantrill, who surrendered seven earned runs in two of his last three starts. Atlanta’s pitching and offensive numbers over their last five games might be better than the Mets’ set of metrics over a five-game stretch, but I am putting my trust in Holmes to deliver another stellar pitching performance against the Braves.
