The New York Liberty (17-10) visit the Connecticut Sun (5-21) on August 3, Sunday, at the Mohegan Sun Arena.
The Sun and the Liberty face each other for the third time this season. New York won the first game via a blowout 100-52 victory, but Connecticut got their revenge a couple of days ago.
Behind a great defensive stand, the Sun carved out a surprising 78-62 win over the Liberty. They held the short-handed defending champs to only 33.9% shooting, while forcing them to commit 21 turnovers. Marina Mabrey's 18 points led the Sun, while three other Connecticut players scored at least 15 points.
The Sun is riding a mini momentum right now, having won two of their last three games.
As for the Liberty, they've lost their last four games. What hurts even more is the injury to their star center Breanna Stewart. Per ESPN, Stewart has been diagnosed with a right knee bone bruise, and has an August 16 estimated return date.
Along with Stewart, rotational pieces Kennedy Burke (calf) and Nyara Sabally (knee) are also sitting out the next game against the Sun.
