The Spurs actually enter this game with momentum, having won their past two games, although they have little chance to catch Portland and avoid last place in the Western Conference.
The Knicks enter playing their best basketball of the season, but looking to prove themselves. New York has mostly fattened its record on the so-called weaker conference, as it has gone just 14-13 against the Western Conference this season. The Knicks have won three of their past four against the West, but the loss came to Denver, the only western team they played on that four-game swing that will be a top-four seed in the playoffs.

The Spurs might be feisty, but the Knicks really need this game more. New York really looked the part of a top team and didn’t have any problems against the Western also-rans when it went through the West Coast swing. The Knicks routed the Spurs when the teams met in the Garden, and even though rookie Victor Wembanyama has grown a lot since that game, he might be hitting a rookie wall.
Over his past seven games, Wembanyama has scored less than 20 points five times, a sign that he might be slowing down as the spring arrives. He’s not shooting as well as he did earlier this season, and his legs might be one of the reasons. If he doesn’t have enough left, the Knicks should handle the Spurs with ease.
