The New York Islanders will attempt to regain momentum on Saturday night against the San Jose Sharks at SAP Center.
After putting together a season-best five-game winning streak, Patrick Roy’s team has lost two games in a row. The Islanders couldn’t generate much offense in a 5-1 defeat against the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday, and a slow start cost them the game against the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday night.
The Islanders have been a very competitive team this season and haven’t dropped three consecutive contests since heading into the Christmas break on a losing run. Roy is a demanding coach and will want to see a major improvement on Saturday, particularly on the defensive end, after seeing his team allow 10 goals in two games.
The Sharks have battled defensive issues for most of the season, but their potent offense has bailed them out on many occasions. Macklin Celebrini is having an extraordinary sophomore campaign, and when his line is clicking, the Sharks are tough to keep up with.
Celebrini is fifth in scoring this season with 87 points (30 goals, 57 assists) and just recorded his fifth career four-point game. Only Wayne Gretzky (14), Sidney Crosby (8), and Dale Hawerchuk (7) have had more four-point games as teenagers in NHL history.
