Despite playing on Wednesday evening, the NYCFC boys will get the new weekend of Major League Soccer action underway, hosting Charlotte FC at Yankee Stadium early on Saturday afternoon. This will be a game between two in-form teams. Dean Smith's visitors have been flying along of late, winning each of their last six games in all competitions, securing the victory in each of their last nine MLS games. Such a fantastic run has left the North Carolina team sitting in a very lofty position in the Eastern Conference, so lofty that they've now guaranteed a place in the postseason.
The hosts also look highly likely to be playing play-off soccer in around a month or so. They currently occupy fifth place in the east, while there's a healthy gap between themselves and those fighting to get into the all-important top nine, though to qualify automatically, they need to be in the top seven, which is not something that they've sewn up just yet. In other words, they need to keep winning.
