After the Celtics, who were favored at TD Garden, lost to the Kings on Friday despite being 12.5-point favorites, the defending champions will be even more favored by bookmakers on Sunday when they host the 8-31 Pelicans. Specifically, the Celtics will be 15.5-point favorites at betting sites, but the defending champions rarely win by that many points as their ATS record in the 2024-2025 season is 15-22-1. The Pelicans, while unlike Boston, are underdogs in almost every game, also have a similar ATS record of 15-24-0.
The Pelicans have been one of the teams hit hardest by injuries this season, and on Friday they announced that Jones is out indefinitely due to injury. At least, star player Williamson is expected to play on Sunday after serving a one-game suspension, having played in only seven of the last 39 games so far.
