Two struggling teams face off against each other on Tuesday as the Toronto Maple Leafs welcome the New Jersey Devils to Scotiabank Arena.
New Jersey has won only four games this month, dropping its last three. Meanwhile, Toronto boasts six wins in December, falling to the bottom of the Atlantic Division.
The two meet for the second time this season. Their first head-to-head clash came during New Jersey’s incredible 9-1-0 start-of-the-season run. John Tavares put the Maple Leafs up 1-0 on home ice, but the Devils ended up dominating the clash, winning 5-2. Jack Hughes was the main man with his third career hat trick.
Hughes has just rejoined the lineup after recovering from a hand injury and even scored in his comeback game last week. Yet, the Devils have lost all three games since Hughes’ return, producing only five goals.
The Maple Leafs lost a star forward at the weekend when William Nylander was hurt during Saturday’s 7-5 win over the Ottawa Senators. He is considered day-to-day and could return for Tuesday’s meeting with New Jersey.
Toronto could use all the help it can get, as the team has not been up to par this season. However, Craig Berube’s team has recently improved, going 2-0-1 over the past three games.

Our Toronto Maple Leafs vs New Jersey Devils Prediction
The Maple Leafs have found some form lately and have more potential than their current Eastern Conference ranking suggests. Their home results have been quite solid, and Tuesday provides a good opportunity to improve the numbers further, as a struggling team comes to town.
New Jersey has been slumping since mid-November, losing 13 of 20 games. Hughes’ absence can be blamed for the drop in form, but even after his return, the team has looked far from the level it demonstrated during a nine-game winning streak at the start of the campaign.
Our prediction for New Jersey Devils vs. Toronto Maple Leafs: Maple Leafs to win.
