The New Jersey Devils will try to halt a three-game losing skid as they lock horns with the San Jose Sharks on Saturday at SAP Center in San Jose. The Devils have dropped their last three games, including a lopsided 0-3 loss to the Los Angeles Kings on New Year’s Day. New Jersey fired 33 shots and controlled 62.5 percent of faceoff time but allowed the Kings to convert three goals of their 24 shot attempts. The loss relegated the Devils to second place with a 24-14-3 record (51 points) behind the Washington Capitals (25-10-3, 53 points). The Sharks ended their eight-game losing streak with a 2-1 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning on January 2. Tyler Toffoli scored his 15th goal of the season to open up the scoring at the 13:52 mark of the first period. Mario Ferraro doubled up their lead with a goal in the second period. Tampa Bay pulled a goal back after Anthony Cerelli scored at the 17:44 mark, also in the second frame. The Lightning had several chances to tie the game, but San Jose goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy made some clutch saves down the stretch to preserve the win.
