The No. 25 Nebraska Cornhuskers will try to improve to 6-1 on the year Friday, Oct. 17, when they travel to Minneapolis to face the Minnesota Gophers at Huntington Bank Stadium. Kickoff for this Big Ten matchup is scheduled for 8 p.m. EST, and fans can catch the game on Fox.
Nebraska rolled through its non-conference schedule, beating Cincinnati 20-17 and then crushing Akron (68-0) and Houston Christian (59-7). But when conference play got underway a few weeks ago, they hit a roadblock right out of the gate in No. 21 Michigan and suffered their first loss of the season, 30-27. They have since bounced back with wins over Michigan State (38-27) and Maryland (34-31). Powered by a top ten passing offense, they are gaining 450+ yards per game and scoring 41 points per game. As for Minnesota, the Gophers came into conference play at 2-1 and improved to 3-1 with a 31-28 win over Rutgers. But then they played Ohio State, and the game went as expected, 3-42. They rebounded last weekend with a 27-20 win over Purdue. The Gophers struggle to move the ball on the ground but have a decent passing game, averaging 278.3 ppg while allowing 21.2 ppg.

Maryland nearly figured out how teams other than Ohio State can pull off a win against Nebraska and its top ten passing game: force Dylan Raiola to make a few mistakes. Railoa had three picks in that game, which led to ten points for the Terrapins. Minnesota has a decent pass defense that holds teams to around 200 yards per game and has picked off six passes. But I’m not confident the Gophers' defense will be able to keep the pressure up on Nebraska’s top ten passing game. Nor will their own passing game have success against Nebraska’s top-rated pass defense.
Minnesota’s defense will keep this one close in the first half, but their inability to move the ball against the Cornhuskers will lead to their defense wearing down, allowing Nebraska to pull away in the second half.
