Not even Sam Surridge, MLS's third-highest scorer this season, has been able to prevent his team's fall in the standings. From April 26 to July 9, Nashville built an impressive unbeaten streak of 15 straight matches. But in the crucial months of the finals, Nashville entered an unexpected slump, losing five of its last seven matches.
Having thrashed Orlando City 5-1 at Geodis Park, Nashville was unable to replicate the same result when they visited the Lions at Inter&Co Stadium in their last match.
Hany Mukhtar, a player who has had an excellent season with Nashville, has not been at his best in at least his team's last four matches. The midfielder was booked by the referee minutes before Orlando City scored goals against Nashville in the 30th and 32nd minutes through Ojeda. Mukhtar appeared to score the injury-time goal before halftime, but Shaffelburg's goal tied the score momentarily, and, as is often the case in MLS matches, Orlando City managed to win it in the final play.
Ultimately, it was a costly defeat for Nashville, but they will finally return to Geodis Park after playing away from home in four of their last five MLS matches. The opponent will be Houston Dynamo, but the odds for Nashville to win continue to fall in their favor; they are favorites at -153.
