Two of the hottest teams in the league will meet on Thursday as the 40-25-4 Nashville Predators visit the 45-19-4 Florida Panthers. The Panthers are roaring for a 3rd season in a row, winning the President's Trophy two seasons ago and making the Stanley Cup Finals last season. They are already two points better off than 2022-23, building a campaign on strong defense and excellent netminding. It has not hurt that Sam Reinhart is having a career year, just two away from his first 50-goal season. Sergei Bobrovsky is closing in on 800 games, 400 wins and 40,000 minutes as well as a spot in the Hall of Fame when all is said and done. His 2.35 GAA is his best since winning the Vezina in the 2016-17 season.
The Preds are in a remarkable run of form, 13-0-2 in their last 15. February 15 was the last time that they tasted defeat in 60 minutes with the Dallas Stars getting the better of them. Since they started on that run they have scored 65 goals at an average of 4.33 per game, more than any team in the league. Both teams have averaged 33 shots per game since that date so each is finding opportunities to light the lamp. They put eight past the hapless San Jose Sharks last time with eight different goalscorers. Filip Forsberg has 36 goals on the season to lead the team, second only to the 42 he scored in 2021-22. He has goals in three straight and 20 points in 20 career games against the Panthers.
