A huge Central Division matchup on Saturday as the 43-26-4 Nashville Predators head to Colorado to take on the 46-21-6 Avalanche. The Avs have the best home record in the NHL but their home form has been creaky in recent games, beaten in their last two and in truth lucky that the Penguins capitulated so tamely before that or it would have been three defeats in a row at Ball Arena. They need three points to secure themselves a playoff spot, the same number of points that they currently trail the Dallas Stars in the Central Division but with a game in hand. There is plenty of experience in the team to get them back on the right path, Zach Parise, Andrew Cogliano and Jack Johnston are all in the top 150 in all-time games played in the league.
The Preds will be hugely disappointed that their 18-game point streak came to a screeching halt with a 4-8 defeat at the hands of the Arizona Coyotes on Thursday. Worse still, they took a 2-0 lead in that game before they collapsed. Their final game before the streak was a 2-9 defeat against the Stars so they can completely implode defensively on occasion, something they will want to be wary of on the road at the top offense in the league. Juuse Saros gave up six on just 21 shots and has been inconsistent of late. In his last 20 games, he has given up four or more goals in seven games, including his last two, but has given up one or zero in another six.
