While CF Montreal is mired in last place in the playoffs, the NY Red Bulls are one point behind both Orlando City and the Chicago Fire, the last two teams holding the play-in spot. For the match between CF Montreal and NY Red Bulls on Saturday at Saputo Stadium, NY remains the betting favorite to beat them, albeit slightly.
The truth is that the New York team hasn't had a stellar August or September, as they haven't won in four of their last five matches, a streak that has kept them out of the playoffs and cost them elimination from the US Open Cup. Veteran Cameroonian striker Eric Choupo-Moting hasn't scored since that US Open Cup match. In fact, he had a poor last match; some sites gave him a 5.2 rating out of 10 in his last appearance against Portland, where he received a yellow card and his team lost 2-1.
At least one other highly influential NY Red Bulls player, Emil Forsberg, found his way back to goal, netting the Bulls' first goal in the loss to Portland. The midfielder hadn't scored since scoring on July 31 in the Leagues Cup.
