The 36-27-15 New York Islanders have a huge game on Thursday when they welcome the 30-36-12 Montreal Canadiens. Five straight wins have been a huge help to the Isles as they look to hold onto the third-place slot in the Metropolitan Division, two points to the good over the Washington Capitals at the time of writing. They have looked strong defensively on this recent win streak, only conceding eight times in these five wins, beating the New York Rangers and the Nashville Predators in their last two at UBS Arena. Mathew Barzal has scored 11 points in his last 10 games for them to hit 80 points on the season, five points off a career-high which he set back in 2017/18.
The Habs ended a three-game losing streak in style on Tuesday, beating the Philadelphia Flyers 9-3. The Flyers have been awful of late, but that was comfortably the most they have conceded this season in a single game. Juraj Slafkovsky netted himself a hat-trick to move himself onto 19 for the season and 48 points. The 20-year-old is fourth on the team in points, showing promise for the future. 4-7-4 in their last 15 on the road, they have lacked consistency away from Bell Centre. They lost 2-5 to the New York Rangers the last time that they were in town and although they have had the better of this matchup so far this season, that has come on their own ice rather than on the road.
