The last meeting between Monterrey and Necaxa took place on February 1st; on that occasion, Monterrey won 1-0 with a goal from Ambiz. Once again, this time in the context of Matchday 6 of the Apertura tournament, these two teams meet again at the Estadio BBVA de Bancomer.
After losing in the Leagues Cup, first against Cincinnati and then, with little chance, against Charlotte in the last matchday, Monterrey's Rayados were able to continue their winning streak in Liga MX, which extends to four straight matches. Before the victory against Mazatlán, Monterrey had won 3-1 against León.
