The Liga MX playoffs are underway, and the most evenly matched series will undoubtedly be the one between Monterrey and América, two giants of Mexican soccer. América was the undisputed champion of Liga MX before Toluca stole the trophy and the spotlight last season. América lost 0-2 to the Red Devils in the final match of the regular season and hasn't won a single away game since November 24th.
But Monterrey has also struggled, winning only one of its last six regular season matches, thus missing the opportunity to close out the series at home against América.
Without a doubt, and given the enormous investment made by both teams, whoever is eliminated from this series will be considered a failure for the club, while whoever advances will strengthen their position as a strong title contender. Monterrey scored 33 goals in the regular season, the same as América, but the Monterrey side conceded significantly more, 29 in total after letting in four from Guadalajara in the final match.
