The San Jose Sharks (19-51-9 SU, 37-42 ATS) close in on the end of one of their most wretched seasons in franchise history as they host the Minnesota Wild (37-32-10 SU, 39-40 ATS). The Sharks play their final home game of the season and could end up with fewer than 50 points in a full season for the first time since 1996.
That seems more likely given that the Sharks will likely start MacKenzie Blackwood, who has just one win since February 15. San Jose is 1-7-1 in Blackwood’s past nine starts, and in the one win, Blackwood was perfect, turning aside 35 shots. In his last start, he did play pretty well, but his defense left him out to dry by allowing 44 pucks to reach the net in a 3-2 loss to Calgary.

Minnesota also appears to be limping home now that the Wild know they won’t be in the playoffs. The Wild have lost four of five and scored just two goals in all four defeats. The offense isn’t doing much right now, and they turn to untested rookie Jesper Wallstedt in this game. Wallstedt looked good in his most recent start, but that came against punchless Chicago. It was also only the second start of his career and should be taken with a grain of salt.
Still, both offenses come in lacking confidence and both goaltenders come in after good performances in their previous outing. This might be the opponent that Blackwood needs to get into the win column, and even if it isn’t, he still should be able to keep the score respectable. If Wallstedt can build off his performance at Chicago, this won’t be a high-scoring game. Our prediction for Minnesota vs. San Jose is Under 6.
