After closing out last week with a win over the reigning Stanley Cup champions, the Carolina Hurricanes, the Calgary Flames look to another big result Thursday night against the Minnesota Wild at Scotiabank Saddledome.
Calgary has had a tough start to the season, winning only two games. But the win over Carolina should boost the team’s confidence and give players belief that they can still turn things around. Last week, the Flames also recorded an impressive road win against Anaheim.
With Kirill Kaprizov scoring goals for fun, the Wild have enjoyed good early-season form. However, they've relied heavily on the Russian superstar, and Kaprizov’s current scoring level isn’t sustainable. He’s potted 11 goals in 10 games, posting a 32.4 shooting percentage, which is twice his career average.
Teams can learn from the Flames, who have limited Kaprizov to six goals and 10 points in 13 games. They lack outstanding offensive talent and must lean on their defense to get points on the board.
