The Edmonton Oilers will look to prove their championship-winning credentials on Thursday against the Stanley Cup-holding Carolina Hurricanes at Rogers Place. After a shocking start, the team has gone from strength to strength and must be full of confidence that it can keep winning.
The Oilers gave up 13 goals in their first two games of the season against Vancouver, but that seems like a distant memory now. Some of the players are in exceptional form, and Edmonton has made it tough for everyone they have faced.
Defensive issues still pop up at times, but a potent offense has propelled Edmonton to an impressive 7-1-1 record. They lead the league with a 4.56 goals-for average.
Edmonton holds the best offensive record in the league despite starting the season without Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. The veteran playmaker is penciled in for his season debut on Thursday night, giving the Oilers another option up front.
The Hurricanes will also receive a boost on Thursday, as they are set to have Seth Jarvis in the lineup for the first time this season. Rod Brind’Amour’s team is topping the Metropolitan Division with an 8-2-1 record. Adding Jarvis will make Carolina even stronger, but they'll need a special performance to keep pace with Edmonton.
