The Minnesota Vikings (0-0 SU, 0-0 ATS) face off against the New York Giants (0-0 SU, 0-0 ATS) in a game where neither team will be putting out a great option at quarterback. For the Vikings, it’s by necessity, as Minnesota had planned to go with rookie J.J. McCarthy under center. But McCarthy got hurt in the preseason, which meant the Vikings had to turn to Sam Darnold.
Given that Darnold has been on two teams and had little success, it’s fair to think this might be a last chance for him. To be fair, neither the Jets nor the Panthers offered a good situation for a young quarterback, and Minnesota at least has some weapons available. If he’s on the same page with his targets, there’s reason to think he can move the offense.

Our New York Giants vs Minnesota Vikings Prediction
The Giants will counter with Daniel Jones, who has been erratic at best since becoming the Giants’ signal caller. New York apparently decided it was not going to do any better than Jones and signed him to an extension, so whether the Giants sink or swim is now tied to the former Duke product.
That didn’t go very well a year ago, as the Giants ranked 29th in passing yards in 2023. Of the three teams behind New York, one had a rookie quarterback and the other two have changed quarterbacks for 2024. New York isn’t in a position to do that, and it’s fair to wonder if there really is a plan for Big Blue. The Giants seem to be trying to change up their identity, but losing Saquon Barkley really seems a head-scratcher when quarterback was already a question mark. Our prediction for Minnesota vs. New York is Vikings -1.5.
