The Seattle Sounders visit Minnesota United in a fixture that has traditionally been wide open. The Sounders are coming off a whitewashing of Los Angeles Galaxy, where they came in as small favorites but blasted the home side by a 4-0 count.
However, Seattle has been consistently inconsistent. The Sounders have not lost a match against MLS competition since June 8 against Vancouver, but they also haven’t won consecutive matches since the end of May. Over the past three months of MLS competition, Seattle has alternated between wins and draws in every match. They have won four in a row overall, but three of those came in Leagues Cup against Liga MX sides who weren’t prioritizing that competition. In the wake of Leagues Cup, this is Seattle’s fifth match in a span of 16 days.

Minnesota really would love to get out of the funk it’s been in at home. The Loons have only taken points in two of their past five home matches, even though they’ve been scoring consistently. Minnesota has actually been better on the road, having taken points in six straight away from Saint Paul.
That included the first meeting with Seattle, which saw Minnesota hit the net three times in a 10-minute span. The Loons ended up holding on for a 3-2 win, and they’re currently sitting three points ahead of the Sounders because of that result.
